The Trail Of The Jinx

This is my first post in blog spot and its about cricket(the most easiest and the most familiar topic for any Indian!).I'm not going to adorn the role of a critic of the Indian Cricket team because I don't want to add to the already existing ONE BILLION critic pool.Let me not beat the bush anymore and get on with the topic straightaway.I'm in Computer Applications Department and I play for my Department team and for my college cricket team as well.Every year, the department Of Textile Technology would host an intra-College Cricket tournament. Our department team fares well in cricket(only in Cricket) and we reached the finals for the last five times and we could have ended up reaching the finals for the sixth time as well had we played with a little more common sense. We lost the toss and it was a good toss to loose because we got what we planned for.The Mech's who were our opponent opted to field. As always I opened the batting for my team.We had a steady start and I was tentative initially scoring just the singles and two's keeping aside the big booming cover driver which every conventional opening batsmen would want to play.It was the the third over that stirred up my confidence. The bowler was Ram Mohan and it was a Good Length Delivery,My initial movement was forward because, I wanted to always play forward because of the low bounce that did the batsmen in.That very good length delivery I played off the back-foot on the rise and my body weight going completely into that shot and the best part was that I just middled the ball and not even a punch, there she went through the covers to the boundary ropes. That shot gave me a lot of confidience and I decided I would play my shots if it was there to be hit. Then followed the flurry of boundaries and the best part was that I played within the "V" and that kept my shots on to the ground. The field was altered to stop the runs through the cover region and there wz just one man in front of the wicket on the ON side. The next delivery was again on a good length and I used my wrists to good use and played it on the ON side for a couple.Almost a similar delivery and I bettered my shot and off she went for a boundary in the same area. The run rate was up in a flash and I was sighting the ball very well.I played a beautiful ON DRIVE which is regarded as the most difficult shot to play. The slice over the backward point fetched me another boundary and a few more followed and I was completely exhausted because off the heat that drained my energy completely.I even thought of getting out at one stage but I did not want to commit the same mistake which I always do after getting off to a good start.I played with patience and I reached my HALF-CENTURY in the 8th over.I got out on 52 and scored them off 33 deliveries. It really was a satisfying innings because of the manner in which I scored those runs and my shots were flowing freely and balance was perfect.I was also able to pick the gaps with precision whenever I went for the big shots. The chase was always on and we helped our opponents cause by not bowling to the field set and by conceding too many extras and also because of poor fielding. The match was lost in the last over and our dream of entering into the finals for the sixth time went begging.
